Title 1 is a federal program
that provides additional funding to qualifying schools so that they can help
students who are at-risk for not succeeding academically. Four main factors that can affect how
well a student performs in school are:

1. The number of parents in the home.
2. Whether or not English is the primary language in the
home.
3. Whether the child comes from a racial minority.
4. The income level of the family.
Over 70% of the students at
Franklin Elementary come from lower income, minority, limited English
proficient, and/or single parent families. This means that most of the students at our school will not
have the resources or parental support at home that are so important for
success in school. For this
reason, the Title 1 funding we receive is used for programs and activities
designed to provide academic support for those
students who are struggling as well as to encourage parents to become more
involved in their childrenŐs learning.
